  1996
  • Mr Douglas Foo, Chairman and CEO sets up Apex-Pal International Ltd on 7 February 1996.
 
  1997
  • Sakae Sushi, our flagship brand, opens its doors to fervent sushi lovers at OUB Centre.
 
  1998
  • The second outlet at The Heeren opens within six months after launching the first outlet.
 
  1999
  • Sakae Sushi launches an interactive menu allowing customers to browse menu pages and order their favourite dishes directly from the kitchen.
 
  2000
  • Apex-Pal International clinches exclusive distributorship rights in Singapore for Bud’s Ice Cream of San Francisco, which uses skim milk instead of full cream milk.

  • Sakae Sushi ventures into the suburbs and opens its first heartland outlet at Eastpoint Mall.

  • Apex-Pal International receives On-the-Job Training Centre Certification status from the Institute of Technical Education.
 
  2001
  • Sakae Sushi gains award as one of Singapore’s Top Restaurant by Wine and Dine.

  • Apex-Pal International opens its first Sakae Sushi franchise in Java, Indonesia.

  • Crepes & Cream’s signature outlet opens its doors with its first outlet at Junction 8.

  • Apex-Pal International sets up first Sakae Sushi franchise in Thailand.

  • The ‘Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore’(MINDS) becomes our first adopted charity.

 
  2002
  • Nouvelle Events is set up with a central kitchen to support the Sakae Sushi chain of restaurants.

  • Apex-Pal International signs a franchise agreement was signed with a Singapore-Inc company for rights to Metro Manila, Philippines.

  • The Sakae Sushi brand wins the Singapore Franchise Mark.

  • Mr. Douglas Foo receives the Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2002.

  • Apex-Pal International wins the Enterprise 50 Award.

 
  2003
  • Apex-Pal International debuts on the Singapore Exchange on 19 August 2003.

  • A portable conveyor belt developed in-house wins the Singapore Innovation Award 2003 (Innovation of the Year). The company also receives the Singapore Innovation Class in the same year.

  • The Sakae Sushi brand receives the Singapore Promising Brand Award for its outstanding quality sushi rice that is enriched with Vitamin E.

  • Mr. Douglas Foo receives the Singapore Youth Award 2003 (Entrepreneurship category) – the highest honour for youths under the age of 35.

 
  2004
  • The Sakae Sushi brand plants its first flag in massive mainland Chinese market with the opening of its first outlet in Shanghai.

  •  Apex-Pal International is certified to Singapore Quality Class Scheme.

  • The company wins the Singapore Family Friendly Employer Award.

 
  2005
  • Sakae Sushi sets up the Sakae Junior Club for kids aged 3 to 12 to promote learning through regular activities.

  • Our Philippines franchisees open their first Sakae Sushi and Crepes & Cream outlets respectively in Manila.

  • Sakae Sushi steps into neighbouring Malaysia with its first outlet at The Curve in Petaling Jaya.

  • The Sakae Shimbun, a quarterly newsletter for Sakae Sushi VIP cardholders makes its debut with cut-out coupons and other exciting promotions.

  • Apex-Pal International supports the local arts scene as one of the sponsors for Jack Neo’s movie “One More Chance”.

  • A strong believer of work-life balance, Apex-Pal International wins both the Singapore H.E.A.L.T.H Award (Gold) and Singapore H.E.A.L.T.H Leader Award.

  • Sakae Sushi holds its first Roadshow at Wheelock Place.

  • Apex-Pal International supports the Singapore Youth Sailing with the inaugural Sakae-NOSS Championship.

  • Sakae Sushi steps into Beijing with its first outlet at Twins Tower.

  • Apex-Pal International wins Work-Life Excellence Award.

  • Vegetarians get to enjoy Japanese cuisine with the launch of Sakae Sushi’s Veggies Delights menu.

  • Sakae Sushi opens it first outlet in Chiangmai, Thailand.

  • Apex-Pal International becomes one of the pioneer Workforce Skills Qualification Training Centre under the Workforce Development Agency.

  • Apex-Pal wins the CitiBusiness-SPBA Regional Brand Award.

  • The Sakae Sushi fare hits schools with the opening of Sakae@Campus at Dunman High School and Meridian Junior College.

  • Apex-Pal International opens its first Sakae Teppanyaki outlet at Century Square.

  • Sakae Sushi enters Hong Kong with the opening of its first outlet at Tai Wau Plaza.

  • Sho-U enters the modern Japanese dining segment and becomes the latest brand in Apex-Pal International’s exciting portfolio restaurants.

  • Apex-Pal International moves into its own building at One Irving Road.

  • Sakae Delivery goes islandwide at 6388 8383 with the set up of its call centre.

  • Apex-Pal International wins the Distinguished Defence Partner Award.

  • Mr. Douglas Foo wins the International Management Award.

  • Apex-Pal International moves into its own building at One Irving Road.

  • Sakae Sushi Leaps into Vietnam with New Management Contract.

  • Apex-Pal introduces a new Tokyo Café Brand, Kohi Ten, in Singapore. It differentiates itself with the use of quality beans from UCC and state of the art siphon-brew bar.

  • Apex-Pal International opens its first Senjyu Sushi outlet in Selangor, Malaysia.

  • Apex-Pal launches its first Japanese Pasta brand, The Pasta Shop by Sakae, at Tiong Bahru Plaza.

  • Apex-Pal re-launches its Modern Japanese Dining Brand, Hibiki at the iconic Singapore Flyer

  • Sakae Sushi enters New York City, United States with its first outlet at historical landmark, Chrysler Building. The restaurant receives Noteworthy Newcomer by Zagat and gets Top Rating by Citysearch, NYC’s biggest online restaurant directory.

  • Sakae Sushi @ Bugis and Changi Airport, Terminal 2, became the first batch of pilot F&B companies to be certified to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point), a testimony to the level of importance placed on the food quality and safety.

  • Sakae Teppanyaki enters Malaysia with its first outlet at AutoCity, Penang.

  • Hei Sushi is certified Halai by MUIS, much to the delight of our muslim community who also loves healthy Japanese food.

  • Sakae introduces its inaugural Sakae Monthly Bloggers Affair (August 2009) and Sakae e-Journalist Programme to engage the blogosphere.

  • Sakae Sushi joins Facebook and Twitter to reach out to fans online.

  • Sakae launches a new tagline and brand campaign “Sakae Sushi: We Serve Only What We Eat”.

  • Sakae brings Sakae Musical to schools and grassroot events.

  • Sakae Sushi opens Singapore's first Sushi Drive-thru at TradeHub 21.
